LGBTQ teens have it incredibly hard. In a world that isn’t accepting, for every moment they live their truth, the concern of who might object lingers. It’s an unfortunate fact of today’s society that 42% of LGBT youth live in communities that aren’t accepting of their identities, according to the Human Rights Campaign. What’s worse is that many of those kids are struggling to be accepted by not only their communities but also their own families.

One of these teens decided to enact some revenge for the treatment they endured. The teen took to both Reddit and Tumblr to share the story of their family’s meatloaf recipe. The teen explained that the recipe was top secret, with their mom not sharing it until they were 19. The teen didn’t mind keeping the secret. That changed when they came out to their mom. After mom was “homophobic and abusive” at the news that her child was gay, the teen decided to share that meatloaf recipe with the world. Now deemed “revenge loaf,” the recipe has taken the internet by storm.
