As soon as Michael Coyne turned 21, he was eager to take on more responsibility and gain more independence in his life. He started applying to as many jobs as he could.

However, it seemed like no one wanted to hire Michael; his application was rejected by every single employer.

Michael lives with autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and bipolar disorder. He desperately wanted to show potential employers that people with disabilities are hard workers, too.

After trying to get a job to no avail, Michael was sick and tired of hearing the word “no.” But instead of sitting back and letting himself feel rejected, he took a proactive stance.

Michael enrolled in business classes through the Rhode Island Developmental Disability Council. Once he completed his studies, he and his mother Sheila set up a business for him to own and operate himself — and one that would include other people with special needs. Simply amazing!
