You may have noticed that Pat Sajak has been missing from Wheel Of Fortune. The 73-year-old has been recovering from emergency surgery to repair a blocked intestine. It’s kept him away from hosting duties on the popular game show, which he has hosted for over 30 years. Now a month into his recovery, Pat’s opening up about the procedure and the scary circumstances around his health in an interview with Good Morning America.

Everything was business as usual on the November day when the incident happened. He was getting ready for work when he suddenly began feeling some intense stomach pain. Within two hours, Pat was being wheeled into the emergency procedure. It would have been even sooner, but doctors had to wait for his blood pressure to rise after it dropped dangerously low. While he’s doing much better today, the sudden and intense pain had him concerned that he was dying. Rather than think of himself, Pat’s mind was on his wife of 30 years, Lesly Sajak, and 24-year-old daughter, Maggie.
