Ann Woodbury is 72 years old and has been a Salvation Army bell ringer for over 20 years. She simply enjoys greeting people and making a difference. It’s a selfless job, and oftentimes people like Ann don’t get the recognition they deserve.
Holiday season after holiday season, Ann can be found standing outside the doors of a shopping mall in Virginia, ringing her bell for the Red Kettle program in an effort to help those less fortunate. She stands out there, rain or shine, and she has never taken a day off.
In the clip below, Ann thinks she’s about to be interviewed about her job as a bell ringer and the importance of keeping the tradition alive.
“We need more bell ringers,” she tells the reporter. “We would appreciate it if you just come on out to the Salvation Army and help us to ring the bells.”
But there’s a very special surprise just for her — and it’s enough to leave this dedicated bell ringer truly speechless.
