Struggling Pennsylvania Families Enjoy Special Christmas Gifts Thanks To Local Charity

A charity in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, has found a way to bring holiday happiness to struggling families. The Delco Group helped give gifts both big and small to deserving families based on nominations.

“We’d surprise them with a Christmas gift after being nominated by someone in their community,” explained John Port, president of The Delco Group. The group is comprised of 11 friends who wanted to make a difference in their beloved neighborhood. This year, they helped 14 families.

One of the families that received some holiday magic is the O’Briens. Nicole is mother to 2-year-old Rowan, who is undergoing treatment for leukemia.

“Delco has always been a great place to live and grow up and stay. These guys have proven it’s the best place to be,” she noted.

Juan Ortiz is another who received a surprise. He’s the father of two young boys, and lost his wife, Jill, to cancer. Jill died two weeks after being told she has six months to live. Her final wish was to take their sons to Disney World.

“Something that became a more serious conversation when she was diagnosed but we were never afforded the time,” Juan explained.

Juan and his boys were gifted Mickey Mouse shirts with “Mom” printed on them. They’re excited to wear the shirts to Walt Disney World on the trip they’ve also been gifted from The Delco Group.

“I don’t know what to say, it’s amazing,” Juan remarked.
