There’s a gruesome scene outside a man’s home in Dallas, Texas. Blood-covered bodies, carnage strewed across the lawn, blood spilled across the walkway, and body bags piled up beside a wheelbarrow full of bloodied, severed limbs.
But fear not, because the massacre is a fake scene, created and constructed by homeowner and artist Steven Novak.
Steven would often create art in his front yard, which eventually attracted the attention of his neighbors. They kept asking him when he was going to set up a Halloween display… but at first, he just wasn’t into the idea.
Six years ago, he finally accepted the challenge and started decorating his home for Halloween.
What began with a display of playful ghosts and fog machines gradually evolved over the years into something much more sinister, complete with morbid handmade props, extreme death scenes, and lots and lots of fake blood.
“When it’s raining, it washes it right off and I have to reapply it every morning,” he told Inside Edition. “I’m out there just slinging gallons and gallons of blood. I just wave at them like a friendly neighbor and say, ‘Just out here watering the bodies.’”
Most of his neighbors are delighted by the over-the-top display, but not all. On multiple occasions, the Dallas Police Department has had to dispatch officers to Steven’s home after some neighbors issued complaints.
