Jessica Zhang has 544,000 followers on TikTok, which makes her a bona fide social media celeb on the popular platform.
The 18-year-old freshman worked incredibly hard for her acceptance into Cornell University, an Ivy League school located in Ithaca, New York.
Jessica gained online popularity for her helpful tips for students who are trying to get into college. She shared her own personal journey to Cornell, along with information about admissions, studying, life on campus, and everything college-related.
But now, many of Jessica’s fellow students are trying to kick her out of the university she worked so hard to get into.
According to reports, Jessica hosted and attended campus parties during the COVID-19 outbreak. She sparked outrage when a video showed her attending a party without wearing a face mask or social distancing.
Cornell students have even started an online petition via Change.org demanding she be expelled — and it already has 2,500 signatures.
“Please sign this petition in support of removing her status as a student at Cornell,” the petition reads. “She does not belong at an institution where she recklessly endangers local residents, students, and disparages the reputation of Cornell. The University must take a hard stance on students who will not comply to social distancing guidelines and measures to de-escalate COVID-19,” the petition states.
Jessica is now responding to the controversy, but some people are still not buying her defense.
