The Biggest Pet Trend In 2019 Is Revealed: We’ve All Been Naming Our Pets After Celebrities

Picking a pet name isn’t easy. There’s no one way of doing it either. Just like naming a child, some people decide before they meet their special little one, while others have to wait to get to know their personality. This year, it seems like a lot of pet parents are choosing monikers after their favorite celebs, according to Rover.com.

Rover just released their annual pet name report, and it seems like pet parents are drawing a lot of inspiration from pop culture. Music, in particular, inspired several pet names. The top seven pet names inspired by musicians were Taylor Swift, Khalid, Madonna, Ariana, David Bowie, Lady Gaga, and Beyonce. Taylor Swift, in particular, saw a 400% rise in popularity. Pet parents are also showing love for newcomer Lizzo. While dogs are getting their monikers straight from the stars, cat owners are trying for more punny names, like Katy Purry or Catsy Cline.

TV shows also have been a major inspiration for pet owners. Names that came from Game Of Thrones saw a surge as the final season aired. Fans of Arya Stark were anxious to name their dogs and cats after her after the popular end to her story.

Finally, food names have become very popular, with an interesting split between health food-inspired names and comfort food-inspired names. Kale and Keto were some rising names but weren’t quite as popular as Waffles, Pancake, and Cupcake.
