An elderly man was lying in bed, very ill, while his family sat in the living room discussing his funeral.
His son Arthur said,
“We should give him a grand farewell. Let’s invite hundreds of people and rent a whole fleet of limousines.”
His daughter Emily shook her head.
“That would cost far too much. We should keep it simple with only close family and a few friends. One limousine will be enough.”
Then his grandson Jim added,
“We should decorate everything with beautiful flowers—lots of roses and lilies.”
His granddaughter Kylie disagreed.
“One small bouquet is more than enough. There’s no reason to spend so much.”
After talking it over, the whole family agreed that the funeral should be as inexpensive as possible.
“No point wasting money,” one of the sons said.
Just then, a weak voice came from the bedroom.
The old man called out,
“Why don’t you bring me my trousers? I’ll just walk to the cemetery myself!”
