A lion walked into a fancy restaurant one evening, his tail swishing proudly behind him. The hostess was surprised but decided not to question him. He looked perfectly well-behaved.
The lion sat at a table near the window and carefully studied the menu.
After a few minutes, the waiter approached.
Waiter:
“Good evening, sir. What would you like to drink?”
Lion:
“A glass of the house wine, please.”
Waiter:
“Excellent choice! And may I recommend our salmon? It’s the chef’s specialty.”
Lion:
“That sounds delicious. I’ll have it.”
The waiter brought the wine and later served the salmon. The lion ate politely and even used a napkin while several customers stared at him.
After finishing his meal, the waiter returned.
Waiter:
“And what would you like for your main course, sir?”
The lion thought for a moment.
Lion:
“I think I’ll just have a comb.”
Waiter:
“A… comb?”
Lion:
“Yes. A nice, sturdy one.”
The waiter looked confused.
Waiter:
“Sir, I’m afraid I don’t understand.”
The lion pointed at his enormous mane.
Lion:
“Look at this mess! I’ve had salmon, wine, and half the restaurant staring at me. If I’m going to leave here looking like a respectable lion, I’d better fix my hair.”
Then he leaned closer and whispered,
Lion:
“Besides… if my mane looks good, I might come back tomorrow for the zebra.”
