One of the most widespread misconceptions ever is that we should only forgive others because they deserve it. While you may be able to forgive those who deserve it, forgiveness is ultimately about you.
Everything in life starts and ends with you, and forgiveness is no different. As humans, we often focus on the shortcomings of others, failing to recognize that we are also fallible. It can seem as though everyone is blaming you for their wrongdoings, but they never realize that they have harmed others as well. At that point, we must decide whether to forgive or hold a grudge in our hearts and grow bitter.
It is important to remember that holding grudges towards someone for an extended period of time will not alter their behavior towards you. Therefore, we should never go through something like this in life. Being human means that you will always make mistakes and that is why you must choose to forgive those.
I usually warn people that those who refuse to forgive hate themselves! If you love yourself, it will be easy for you to forgive. You will have to let go when you ask God to open a door for you. Delayed blessings may sting for a while, but you have to remember that you cannot expect an extraordinary blessing if you choose not to forgive; even if you are unable to forgive yourself, it will be difficult for you to move forward in life.
Thank God for giving you life, and make the decision to forgive and let go. Forgiveness is actually a strength, not a weakness! Never bring up an individual’s previous mistakes, particularly if they have expressed sincere regret. Think about yourself from other people’s perspectives and observe how you handle them; your actions will decide the extent of God’s blessings.
