For several years, a married man had a secret relationship with an Italian woman.
One day, she told him that she was expecting a baby.
Not wanting the news to become public or affect his marriage, he offered her a large sum of money to return to Italy and have the baby there.
He also promised to provide financial support for the child until the age of eighteen if she stayed in Italy to raise the child.
She agreed, but asked,
“How will you know when the baby is born?”
The man thought for a moment and said,
“To keep everything private, just send me a postcard with the word ‘Spaghetti’ written on it. I’ll know what it means and start sending the support payments.”
About nine months later, he came home to find his wife looking puzzled.
“Honey,” she said, “you received a very strange postcard today.”
“Really? Let me see it,” he replied.
She handed him the postcard.
As soon as he read it, his face turned pale, and he fainted.
The postcard read:
“Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti. Two with meatballs, one without. Please send extra sauce.”
